MRCOOL DIY® 5th Generation Multi-Zone Mini Split Condenser

The MRCOOL DIY® 5th Generation Multi-Zone Mini Split Condenser is designed to deliver efficient heating and cooling to multiple areas of your home from a single outdoor unit. By providing independent temperature control for each zone, it allows homeowners to condition only the spaces they use, improving comfort while reducing energy costs.

This condenser is intended for multi-zone operation and requires a minimum of two indoor air handlers to function. It will not operate with only one indoor unit connected. Additional indoor units can be added depending on system capacity and layout.

Built for true DIY installation, the system works with MRCOOL DIY® Quick Connect® line sets that are factory pre-charged with R-454B refrigerant. Installation requires no vacuuming, brazing, cutting, or specialized HVAC tools, making it accessible for homeowners without professional experience.

The ductless design eliminates the need for traditional ductwork and supports flexible layouts for homes, apartments, offices, workshops, and additions. Each indoor unit operates independently, allowing precise room-by-room temperature control.

Designed for reliable performance in demanding climates, the condenser provides effective heating in cold outdoor temperatures down to -13°F and dependable cooling in extreme heat up to 122°F, making it suitable for year-round comfort across a wide range of environments.

Smart functionality is integrated, enabling control of each zone through the MRCOOL® SmartHVAC® app or by voice using Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. The included DIYPRO® cable provides a durable, outdoor-rated electrical connection without the need for flexible metal conduit.

All multi-zone models operate on 208/230V electrical service, which is required for proper installation and performance. Electrical service should be confirmed prior to purchase.

Designed for long-term reliability, the condenser features a Gold Fin® corrosion-resistant coating to help withstand harsh outdoor and coastal environments. It is Intertek listed for safety and performance and backed by strong warranty coverage, including a 7-year compressor warranty and 5-year parts warranty, with optional limited lifetime coverage available through MRCOOL Care program registration.

Indoor air handlers and Quick Connect® line sets are sold separately and must be selected to meet your system requirements. This condenser ships via LTL freight with curbside delivery.

  • MRCOOL DIY Mini Split Sizing Guide

Which air handler is best for your room size?

The size of your room is the main factor in choosing the right unit. MRCOOL DIY 4th Gen comes in various sizes, each designed to cool and heat specific square footage ranges.

Here's a quick reference for choosing the right BTU based on your room size:

    • 6,000 BTU covers up to 250 square feet
    • 9,000 BTU covers up to 350 square feet.
    • 12,000 BTU covers up to 550 square feet.
    • 18,000 BTU covers up to 800 square feet.
    • 24,000 BTU covers up to 1,050 square feet.
    • 36,000 BTU covers up to 1,500 square feet.

How BTU Limits Work in Your Mini-Split System

You can opt for high BTU air handlers for strong heating and cooling. But, if you plan to run multiple air handlers at the same time, consider the main unit's (condenser) maximum power.

Here’s the deal: Suppose your condenser can handle 18,000 BTU, and you have two indoor air handlers, each at 12,000 BTU. If both run simultaneously, they’ll automatically adjust to 9,000 BTU each to match the condenser's limit. This ensures the system runs safely.

If you usually run one air handler at a time, a lower BTU condenser might be sufficient. But if you plan to use all air handlers together, a higher BTU condenser is the way to go. This lets you enjoy the full power of each air handler without overloading the system.

By considering these factors, you can ensure your MRCOOL DIY 4th Gen unit is perfectly sized for your needs, keeping you comfortable year-round.
