MRCOOL DIY® 5th Generation Hyper Heat Single-Zone Mini Split System

The MRCOOL DIY® 5th Generation Hyper Heat single-zone mini split system is a complete heating and cooling solution designed for homeowners who need reliable performance in extreme weather and want to install the system themselves. This system includes both the outdoor Hyper Heat condenser and the compatible indoor air handler, delivering year-round comfort without the cost of professional HVAC installation.

Built for cold climates, the Hyper Heat system provides full heating performance in outdoor temperatures down to minus 22 degrees Fahrenheit and continues operating in temperatures as low as that range. Cooling performance remains stable in outdoor temperatures up to 122 degrees Fahrenheit, making this system suitable for regions with harsh winters, hot summers, or both.

The system operates using the environmentally responsible R-454B refrigerant, which is more efficient and compliant with current and upcoming federal regulations. DC inverter technology continuously adjusts output to match demand, helping maintain steady indoor temperatures, reduce energy consumption, and keep operating noise low. The outdoor unit features a Gold Fin coated coil and durable cabinet construction designed to resist corrosion, moisture, and long-term exposure to the elements.

This system is designed for true DIY installation. It includes a factory-sealed 25 ft pre-charged Quick Connect® line set that comes attached as part of the system and cannot be removed or exchanged for a different length. No vacuum pumps, gauges, brazing, or refrigerant handling are required. Installation is completed using standard hand tools, making it accessible for homeowners comfortable with basic mechanical and electrical work.

If the full 25 ft line set is not needed, the excess length can be neatly coiled behind the outdoor condenser. This allows flexibility in placement without affecting system performance or warranty coverage, as long as the line set is not cut, shortened, or modified.

When paired with the included indoor air handler, the system delivers even airflow and consistent temperatures throughout the space. It is well suited for bedrooms, living areas, garages, workshops, additions, and other single-zone applications where dependable heating and cooling are required.

Control options are straightforward. Temperature and operating modes can be adjusted using the included remote or through the SmartHVAC app. Voice control through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant is supported but optional, allowing the system to function independently of smart home platforms.

Warranty coverage is intended for long-term ownership. The system includes a 7-year compressor warranty and a 5-year parts warranty. Homeowners who register and enroll in the MRCOOL Care program can upgrade to enhanced limited lifetime compressor coverage.

  • MRCOOL DIY Mini Split Sizing Guide

Which air handler is best for your room size?

The size of your room is the main factor in choosing the right unit. MRCOOL DIY 4th Gen comes in various sizes, each designed to cool and heat specific square footage ranges.

Here's a quick reference for choosing the right BTU based on your room size:

    • 6,000 BTU covers up to 250 square feet
    • 9,000 BTU covers up to 350 square feet.
    • 12,000 BTU covers up to 550 square feet.
    • 18,000 BTU covers up to 800 square feet.
    • 24,000 BTU covers up to 1,050 square feet.
    • 36,000 BTU covers up to 1,500 square feet.

How BTU Limits Work in Your Mini-Split System

You can opt for high BTU air handlers for strong heating and cooling. But, if you plan to run multiple air handlers at the same time, consider the main unit's (condenser) maximum power.

Here’s the deal: Suppose your condenser can handle 18,000 BTU, and you have two indoor air handlers, each at 12,000 BTU. If both run simultaneously, they’ll automatically adjust to 9,000 BTU each to match the condenser's limit. This ensures the system runs safely.

If you usually run one air handler at a time, a lower BTU condenser might be sufficient. But if you plan to use all air handlers together, a higher BTU condenser is the way to go. This lets you enjoy the full power of each air handler without overloading the system.

By considering these factors, you can ensure your MRCOOL DIY 4th Gen unit is perfectly sized for your needs, keeping you comfortable year-round.
